Is it okay to feed my little one these purees with added salt?Updated 2 years ago
Healthy levels of sodium are an important factor in a child’s growth and development- particularly when it comes to hydration! Sodium is a major part of the body’s fluid and electrolyte balance system because it is the chief ion used to maintain the volume of fluid outside the cell. It’s required to maintain acid-base balance and ensure muscle contraction and nerve transmission. We studied the USDA Infant Nutrition & Feeding Guide, the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 8th Edition, and the United Kingdom’s National Health Service’s recommendation while developing our products. We also consult with a network of health professionals and pediatricians like Dr. Michelle Levitt. Our Toddler Purees with Bone Broth contains around 70 mg of sodium per pouch. The USDA Infant Nutrition & Feeding Guide recommends 110mg sodium per day for infants 0-6 months and 370 mg per day for 7-12 months. The USDA Dietary Guidelines have no stated maximum intake for sodium, but the United Kingdom’s National Health Service recommends no more than 400mg for infants up to 1 year old and 800mg for 1-3 years.
